Organ Mountain News report

LAS CRUCES - Doña Ana County Road Department crews will begin chip seal work on three county roads Monday, Oct. 6, with work continuing through Friday, Oct. 31.

The roads scheduled for chip sealing are:

  • Snow Road in the Brazito area (District 1)
  • Sandhill Road in the Doña Ana area (District 4)
  • Montoya Road in the Doña Ana area (District 5)

During the project, traffic will be reduced to one lane. County officials ask drivers to slow down, watch for workers and use extra caution in the work zones. Roads will remain open, but motorists may experience short delays.

Chip sealing is a maintenance process that extends the life of a roadway. A thin layer of oil is applied, followed by small rocks that are rolled into the surface to seal cracks, protect the road and improve safety.
