LAS CRUCES - A Doña Ana County magistrate judge ordered the release without bond of a former Mesilla Valley Behavioral Hospital nurse charged with multiple felony sex offenses involving a juvenile patient.

Court records show Kayla Renee Salcido, 26, was released from custody on her own recognizance under conditions set by the court. The order was filed March 6, 2026, in Doña Ana County Magistrate Court.

Under the order, Salcido must comply with several restrictions while the case proceeds. The judge ordered that she not possess firearms or dangerous weapons, not return to the location of the alleged incident and avoid all contact with the alleged victim or anyone who may testify in the case.

The order also prohibits Salcido from consuming alcohol or illegal drugs, requires her to notify the court of any change of address and bars contact with anyone under the age of 18 unless supervised.

Court records also state she may not use cannabis or cannabis products without certification from a licensed medical practitioner.

Pretrial services recommended release on recognizance following a Public Safety Assessment conducted March 5. The report indicated Salcido had no prior violent convictions and no prior failures to appear.

Salcido faces multiple felony charges stemming from allegations that she engaged in sexual acts with a juvenile she first met while working as a nurse at Mesilla Valley Behavioral Hospital.

According to the criminal complaint previously reported by Organ Mountain News, the juvenile was receiving treatment at the Las Cruces facility when investigators say Salcido began communicating with him outside of work.

The complaint alleges the most serious sexual acts occurred later at Salcido’s residence after the juvenile had been discharged from the hospital.

Salcido is charged with three counts of criminal sexual penetration of a minor involving force or coercion, one count of criminal sexual contact of a minor by a person in a position of authority and three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The case remains pending in Doña Ana County Magistrate Court.
