Doña Ana County Fire Rescue said three people sustained life-threatening injuries Friday after a single-engine plane crashed near a runway.

SUNLAND PARK - Three people were hospitalized with life-threatening injuries Friday morning after a single-engine plane crashed near a runway at Santa Teresa International Jetport, according to Doña Ana County.

Doña Ana County Fire Rescue and Sunland Park Fire crews responded just after 11 a.m. to the crash at the jetport, 8014 Airport Road.

Firefighters found two occupants had already been removed from the aircraft by witnesses. A third passenger was trapped in the wreckage and was rescued after firefighters extricated them from the aircraft.

Two patients were airlifted to area hospitals. A third was taken by ground ambulance.

New Mexico State Police remained at the scene, and the crash is under investigation. No further information was immediately available.
