Authorities say officers found firearms and ammunition during traffic stop and search warrant execution

LAS CRUCES - A Silver City man has pleaded guilty in federal court to illegally possessing firearms and ammunition after a prior felony conviction.

Max Flores, 54, pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. He faces up to 15 years in prison at sentencing.

According to court documents, officers conducted a traffic stop Dec. 10, 2024, on a vehicle driven by Flores, who had an active arrest warrant and was on federal probation after serving 14 years in prison. Officers found a firearm in the vehicle.

On April 26, 2025, officers executed a search warrant at Flores’ residence following an unrelated incident and recovered several firearms and ammunition.

The FBI’s Las Cruces Resident Agency investigated the case with assistance from the Silver City Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Randy M. Castellano is prosecuting the case.
