Zertuche Road to close through June 6 as crews complete utility and paving work

Organ Mountain News report

LAS CRUCES - Zertuche Road will be temporarily closed starting Thursday, May 16, as construction continues on the new Columbia Elementary School campus along Elks Drive.

The closure is expected to last through June 6 and will impact traffic near Zertuche and El Nido roads. Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes and use caution in the area.

According to the district, the closure will allow construction crews to cap an existing manhole and complete asphalt paving tied to recent underground utility work. Officials say the road will remain closed for the full duration of the project to avoid further disruptions.

The rebuilt Columbia Elementary is expected to open in time for the 2025–26 school year.
