LAS CRUCES - Drivers across Doña Ana County will pay slightly more at the pump as Thanksgiving travel begins, though fuel prices in New Mexico remain below the national average, according to the latest data from AAA.
The current average price for regular gasoline in New Mexico stands at $2.872 per gallon, compared to the national average of $3.079. That places New Mexico about 21 cents below the U.S. average as millions prepare to travel for the holiday.
However, prices have climbed steadily in recent weeks. The current statewide average for regular gas is about 10 cents higher than one week ago and roughly 9 cents higher than one month ago. Compared to this time last year, prices are slightly lower.

AAA’s data shows similar upward movement across mid-grade, premium and diesel fuel, signaling a broader seasonal trend as demand increases ahead of one of the year’s busiest travel periods.
Doña Ana County sits in the mid-range tier on AAA’s county pricing map, reflecting relatively stable but gradually rising fuel costs throughout the region. Drivers traveling along high-traffic corridors such as I-10 and I-25 may notice modest increases compared with earlier in November.
AAA data shows prices are inching upward daily. If you’re traveling Wednesday or Thursday, filling up early could save a few cents per gallon before peak demand hits.
The highest prices are primarily along the state's western border with Arizona.

AAA encourages motorists to plan ahead, monitor fuel prices and consider filling up early if travel plans are imminent.
While the current trend does not suggest a dramatic spike, ongoing day-to-day increases mean travelers could see slightly higher prices as Thanksgiving weekend approaches.
