‘Acid Western’ world premiere brings trick roping, live music and immersive art to Las Cruces

LAS CRUCES - A world premiere blending trick roping, live music, immersive video art and interactive storytelling will take over the Rio Grande Theatre on Saturday night.
“Acid Western,” presented by Dr. Lucky Presents, is billed as a celebration of the mythology of the West through a mix of performance, film history and multimedia art.
The event features Guinness World Record holder Chris McDaniel, New Mexico musician Betty Benedeadly and a multimedia presentation by film scholar Julia Smith tracing the origins of the Acid Western genre.
Doors open at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Rio Grande Theatre, 211 N. Main St. Smith’s presentation begins at 7:30 p.m., followed by the main show at 8 p.m.
General admission tickets are $22.
A western spectacle on stage
Organizers say the show will include award-winning bullwhip artistry, cowboy comedy and championship trick roping.
The stage presentation will also feature an immersive visual backdrop inspired by the Acid Western genre, accompanied by cinematic music influenced by spaghetti westerns.
The event is open to the public.
