LAS CRUCES - Film Las Cruces and Doña Ana Community College will host a free Earth Day screening of the documentary American Hemp Farmer on Wednesday, April 22.

The screening is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the DACC East Mesa Auditorium, located at 2800 Sonoma Ranch Blvd.

The film follows New Mexico rancher Doug Fine and two other families as they explore food security and wildfire mitigation through hemp and other crops after a wildfire nearly forced Fine’s family to evacuate their remote ranch.

“I am so grateful to the southern New Mexico film community, to Film Las Cruces, NMSU and the DACC Film Department for making this New Mexico-shot film such a prominent and free Earth Day event in Las Cruces,” director Doug Fine said. “It’s an uplifting and unifying film and a ray of hope on Earth Day. There’s something we can all do about extreme climate.”

A question-and-answer session with Fine and the film’s editor, Julian Gallegos, will follow the screening.

The documentary recently aired on PBS stations nationwide and is currently available to stream for free online.

Admission to the event is free.
