LAS CRUCES - The City of Las Cruces is updating its Downtown Master Plan, the framework that guides how the city’s central district grows and evolves.
First adopted in the early 2000s and last revised in 2016, the plan has shaped much of downtown’s revitalization over the past decade. This year’s update will refine strategies based on what has changed, what’s working and where new opportunities exist.
From Oct. 20 through 24, the city and its planning consultant, PlaceMakers, will host a weeklong public workshop at Amador Live, 302 S. Main St. The sessions are open to residents, business owners and civic groups who want to help shape the plan’s next phase.
“This update isn’t about starting over,” said Community Development Director Chris Faivre. “It’s about fine-tuning what we’ve already achieved and ensuring downtown continues to reflect the needs and character of Las Cruces.”
The city will meet with business and neighborhood groups throughout the week, but three public sessions are scheduled:
Public Presentation & Workshop: Monday, Oct. 20, 6–7:30 p.m. — Overview of the planning process, changes since 2016 and discussion of priorities.
Open House: Wednesday, Oct. 22, 10–11 a.m. — Drop-in session to view draft concepts and talk with planners.
Closing Presentation: Friday, Oct. 24, 6–7:30 p.m. — Summary of community input and next steps for the plan.
The Downtown Master Plan serves as a blueprint for future investment, land use, design, mobility and economic development downtown. The 2025 update will focus on potential catalyst projects, stronger neighborhood connections and lessons learned over the past nine years.
