LAS CRUCES - Doña Ana Community College is inviting students and residents to celebrate Banned Books Week with carnival-style events at two campuses.

The Banned Books Week Carnival will be held Tuesday, Oct. 7, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Alex Sanchez Hall commons on the Espina campus, 3400 S. Espina St.

A second event will take place Thursday, Oct. 9, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the commons area of the Sunland Park Center, 3365 McNutt Road.

Both events will include carnival games, prizes, snacks and information on banned and challenged books. The DACC Library is hosting the events and will provide resources about intellectual freedom and the history of book challenges.

Banned Books Week, launched in 1982 in response to a surge of book challenges in libraries, bookstores and schools, is a national event held each year in October.
