DACC nursing program becomes first in New Mexico to earn international simulation endorsement

LAS CRUCES - Doña Ana Community College’s nursing program has become the first in New Mexico to receive an international endorsement recognizing its use of simulation in nursing education.
The program received the Healthcare Simulation Standards Endorsement from the International Nursing Association of Clinical Simulation and Learning, or INACSL, DACC announced this week.
The endorsement recognizes health care and educational institutions that demonstrate proficiency in four simulation standards: prebriefing, facilitation, professional integrity and debriefing.
DACC said it is the first college in New Mexico to receive the endorsement and is among 15 colleges newly endorsed this year.
Simulation used in nursing training
DACC has used simulation in its nursing lab for several years, allowing students to practice clinical procedures and patient-care scenarios using mannequins and other training equipment.
The endorsement process included an application and review of the nursing program’s simulation practices.
INACSL has more than 3,000 members worldwide and focuses on advancing health care simulation through nursing education, practice and research.
DACC Assistant Professor Andrea Cathey accepted the endorsement award in Oklahoma City.
