DACC to host free concert featuring world premiere of new works

Performance at East Mesa campus will showcase original compositions by Emmy-winning and internationally recognized artists.

LAS CRUCES - Doña Ana Community College will host a free music recital on Friday, Dec. 5, featuring the world premiere of two newly commissioned works by award-winning composers.

The performance is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the East Mesa campus auditorium, 2800 Sonoma Ranch Blvd., and is open to the public.

The concert will feature John De La Paz, DACC associate professor of music, Dr. Jeffrey Brooks, University of New Mexico associate professor of music and Dr. Benjamin Loeb, an internationally recognized conductor, pianist and entrepreneur who was recently nominated for a Grammy.

The program will include the premiere of “Little Foal” by Gary Kuo, a two-time Emmy Award-winning composer, and “Seanscéalta ‘Tales of Long Ago’” by R.A. Moulds. The pieces were commissioned by De La Paz, Brooks and Loeb.

A pre-concert discussion will begin at 12:30 p.m.

DACC Music is also accepting donations to help continue offering free musical programming. Contributions can be made through the New Mexico State University Foundation’s DACC Music Activities page.
