Organ Mountain News report

LAS CRUCES - Families are invited to celebrate Mother’s Day with a free concert downtown, as Darren Cordova y Calor returns to the stage at Plaza de Las Cruces.

The performance, hosted by the Las Cruces Parks and Recreation Department, begins at 5 p.m. Sunday, May 11 at 100 N. Main Street. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs, loved ones — and of course, their mothers.

Known for hits like Mi Amigo, Cantinero and Que Levante la Mano, Cordova is a household name in New Mexico’s Spanish music scene. The Dixon native rose to fame in the 1990s and went on to win multiple New Mexico Hispano Music Awards, including Male Vocalist and Band of the Year in 2015.

The family-friendly concert marks the start of Las Cruces’ outdoor music season. Food trucks will be on site, and dancing is encouraged.

Later this month, the season continues with the annual Mayor’s Jazz Fest on May 25, followed by the Parks and Recreation Department’s Music in the Park Series — featuring free Sunday evening shows by local and regional acts through August. A full schedule of performers and locations is expected soon.
