LAS CRUCES - Doña Ana Community College will host events in February to recognize Black History Month, including a workshop on historical figures and cultural milestones and a documentary screening on jazz pianist and composer Mary Lou Williams.

The Academic Readiness Center Tutoring Center will hold a free Black History Month workshop on Wednesday, Feb. 19, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Gadsden Center, 1700 E. O’Hara Rd. in Anthony, N.M. The interactive session will cover significant moments in history and contributions of key figures.

The DACC Library will present a free screening of Mary Lou Williams: The Lady Who Swings the Band on Thursday, Feb. 27, at noon at the Espina Campus, 3400 S. Espina, in the DASH building, Room 98. The 2015 documentary explores Williams’ influence on swing, bebop and modern jazz.
