LAS CRUCES - New Mexico State University’s Cambios speaker series and The Lighthouse will host an Earth Day fair Saturday at Young Park, combining environmental outreach with a full evening of live music.

The free event runs from 3 to 10 p.m. and will feature nearly two dozen local and regional organizations focused on sustainability and environmental issues, along with interactive activities and a concert headlined by El Paso-based Frontera Bugalú.

Organizers said the fair is designed to give residents a single place to learn about environmental efforts across the region and find ways to get involved. Topics represented will include endangered species protection, data centers, water management and energy efficiency.

The event will also include a meditative sound bath, a drumming circle, a group art project and a space encouraging face-to-face conversations without the use of technology.

The day will conclude with a concert on the Young Park stage featuring Frontera Bugalú, The Muletones, Era Snow, Desert Roots and Muffin, all representing a range of musical styles from cumbia and old-time string band to reggae and indie.

“The borderlands has always had a thriving local music scene and this event brings together some local standards,” said Neeshia Macanowicz, a music promoter who founded The Lighthouse concert venue and organized the lineup.

Organizers said the shift to a music-centered event is intended to reach a broader audience and encourage continued engagement with environmental issues.

“Music is such an important way to find communion with ourselves, each other, and nature,” said Joseph Burchett, an NMSU astronomer and guitarist in Desert Roots.
