LAS CRUCES - A mural showcase for the El Camino Real Heritage & Art Trail project is scheduled for Friday, June 26, at El Changarro Mesquite Street Gallery in Las Cruces.

The free event will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. at the gallery, 239 S. Mesquite St.

The showcase will feature original artwork from four artists selected through an open artist call for the Arts & Cultural District’s El Camino Real Heritage & Art Trail project. Participating artists include Anahy Nunez, Scooter La Forge, Daniela Palacios and Citlali Delgado.

Their work interprets the historic culture and community connected to El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro and the Mesquite Historic District, according to organizers.

Guests will be able to view the submitted artwork, meet participating artists and learn more about the vision behind the El Camino Real Heritage & Art Trail. Refreshments and light appetizers will be provided, and DJ Rodriga Rockmore will provide music.

Organizers are seeking feedback from residents, business owners and community members as the project moves forward. Attendees will be able to share thoughts on the proposed artwork and learn more about future phases of the trail.

Property owners in the Mesquite Historic District who may be interested in hosting a mural are especially encouraged to attend.

The El Camino Real Heritage & Art Trail is funded by a grant from the New Mexico Creative Industries Division of Economic Development. Organizers describe it as a cultural initiative that will include public murals, wayfinding and interpretive signage, GIS mapping, storytelling experiences and community-centered cultural events.

“This project is about honoring the stories, people, and traditions that have shaped the Mesquite Historic District and the broader borderlands region,” said Jeffrey Stewart, vice president of Main Street Las Cruces. “The mural showcase offers the community an opportunity to engage with the artists and concepts that will help bring this important history to life through public art.”

The event is hosted in partnership with Main Street Las Cruces, Las Esperanzas Inc. and the City of Las Cruces.
