The one-day certification course helps adults recognize signs of crisis in teens and respond effectively

LAS CRUCES - A free, full-day mental health first aid class aimed at helping adults support youth in crisis will be offered Wednesday, May 14, at the Doña Ana County Government Center.

The eight-hour certification course will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Room 111 at the Government Center, 845 N. Motel Blvd. The training is designed for adults who regularly work with or care for youth ages 12 to 18 — including teachers, coaches, counselors and other community members.

The Youth Mental Health First Aid course teaches participants how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health or substance use challenges in young people. The class is free to attend and offered at no cost throughout Doña Ana County.
