The Las Cruces program uses child-parent psychotherapy to help families address trauma, behavioral changes and emotional distress in children ages 5 and younger

Organ Mountain News report

LAS CRUCES - FYI+ is offering infant mental health services for young children and their caregivers through a program designed to strengthen family relationships and help families recover from stressful or traumatic experiences.

The Infant Mental Health Program incorporates child-parent psychotherapy for children from birth through age 5 and their caregivers.

FYI+ said young children often communicate emotional distress through changes in behavior. The program may help families when a child has experienced loss, separation, abuse, violence or another stressful event.

Other signs that a child may need support can include frequent tantrums or emotional outbursts, difficulty sleeping or eating, trouble separating from caregivers, unusual withdrawal or fearfulness, clinginess or sudden behavioral changes after a difficult experience.

Child-parent psychotherapy is intended to help children and caregivers heal together.
