Organ Mountain News report

HATCH - Motorists traveling through Hatch should prepare for lane closures and possible delays beginning Monday, Nov. 2, as the New Mexico Department of Transportation launches a $1.7 million resurfacing project on NM 26.

The project will rehabilitate Franklin Street from the Hall Street intersection toward Interstate 25, replacing the existing asphalt surface with new pavement to improve driving conditions and extend the roadway's service life.

Construction is scheduled from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, with completion expected by Dec. 4, weather permitting.

During construction, drivers can expect lane closures along four-lane sections of the roadway. In two-lane sections, flaggers will direct traffic through the work zone.

Access will remain available throughout construction, but motorists are encouraged to allow extra travel time.

The department also noted that trucks are currently prohibited from using NM 26 to access Interstate 10 or Interstate 25.

Mountain States Constructors Inc. is the contractor for the project.

NMDOT is urging drivers to reduce speeds through construction areas, follow posted signs and traffic-control instructions and remain alert for workers and equipment.

The $1.7 million project is intended to preserve the roadway and provide smoother, more reliable travel for Hatch residents, businesses and visitors.

Motorists can check current road conditions and construction updates at NM Roads or by dialing 511.
