HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE — Civilians and service members alike are invited to take part in Holloman’s annual Ace of Races Marathon and Community Connections Day, happening Saturday, Sept. 6.

The marathon includes a full marathon, half marathon, 5K and a 1-mile kid’s dash. All events will take place on a flat, USA Track and Field-certified course through the base — including a stretch along the flightline that passes F-16 and MQ-9 aircraft. Runners aiming for the Boston Marathon can use this race as a qualifying event.

Registration fees will increase June 1. To register or learn more, including training plans and time limits, visit runsignup.com.

The race honors Major Richard Bong, nicknamed the “Ace of Aces.” Assigned to the 49th Fighter Group during the 1940s, Bong was the nation’s top flying ace of World War II with 40 confirmed aerial victories.

Running alongside the race, Community Connections Day will be free and open to the public. The day will feature ground activities similar to Holloman’s past air shows — including aircraft displays, music, food vendors and hands-on STEM exhibits for kids.

Local employers and organizations will also be on-site with job information and community resources.
