LAS CRUCES - Construction of a new aquatic playground and other recreational improvements at Apodaca Park will begin Monday, Nov. 9, bringing temporary closures to parts of the park as the City of Las Cruces undertakes a project expected to continue through fall 2027.

The city's Parks and Recreation Department has contracted with Jaynes Corporation to build the aquatic playground and make additional park improvements at 801 E. Madrid Ave. The project is intended to expand outdoor recreation opportunities at the park.

Restroom closures and restricted access

The first phase of construction will close the park's main public restrooms and restrict access to designated construction areas.

Restrooms near the ballfields will remain open to the public throughout the renovations, according to the city.

Construction fencing and signage are being installed around work areas. Park visitors are asked to stay outside designated construction zones, follow posted signs and watch for construction traffic moving through the park.

Project expected to continue through fall 2027

The city anticipates completing the improvements by fall 2027.

The Parks and Recreation Department announced the project in a Nov. 4 news release but did not provide a construction cost, detailed schedule for individual improvements or information about the aquatic playground's features.
