LAS CRUCES - Several Las Cruces middle school students toured Doña Ana Community College’s Culinary Arts Program recently as part of an effort to expand their culinary skills and explore future career pathways.

Students from Las Cruces Catholic School, who are enrolled in a culinary course, visited DACC on Wednesday, Dec. 17, to learn more about the college’s culinary offerings. DACC and the school have partnered previously to provide students with guidance and hands-on experience in culinary education.

During the visit, DACC Chef Tom Drake and Las Cruces Catholic School culinary arts instructor Frankie Torres demonstrated how to prepare Cubano paninis in DACC’s industrial kitchen. Students also participated in a demonstration lab session, where meals are prepared on camera to give students a closer view of professional techniques.

“We’re always honored to show young students what it takes to prepare a proper meal in a state-of-the-art, commercial-sized kitchen,” Drake said. “These students may be interested in pathways in high school that will lead them here to DACC once they graduate.”
