LAS CRUCES - A man already on probation for assaulting a peace officer was arrested this week on multiple felony warrants tied to separate violent cases — one stemming from a series of 2024 domestic incidents, the other from a 2025 shooting that left a car riddled with bullets.
Isaac James Brooks, 27, was booked Wednesday, Oct. 22, into the Doña Ana County Detention Center on more than a dozen felony counts, including kidnapping, aggravated battery and assault against a household member, and shooting at or from a vehicle. Both warrants carried no-bond holds.
Court records show one case accuses Brooks of repeated domestic violence across several months in 2024. Police say the incidents escalated over time, beginning with physical assaults and culminating in a string of violent episodes that left the victim injured and fearful for their safety. In one early assault, investigators say the victim suffered a ruptured eardrum after being struck in the head. In another, Brooks allegedly fired a handgun inside a vehicle during an argument. He is also accused of striking the victim with a BB rifle, using broken glass as a weapon and forcing the victim to drive at gunpoint. The complaint further includes allegations of kidnapping and breaking into a home.
The second case traces back to a May 2025 confrontation on a Las Cruces street. Investigators say Brooks and another man followed two people after a brief traffic dispute, cornered their vehicle and opened fire with two handguns. Police recovered shell casings consistent with .40- and .45-caliber rounds, and investigators estimate at least 15 shots were fired. The victims were not seriously injured, but their vehicle was struck multiple times.
Prosecutors say both cases violate the conditions of Brooks’ probation from a September plea deal in which he admitted to attempted battery on a peace officer and driving while intoxicated. That plea stemmed from a December 2024 incident, and most of his sentence was suspended.

A motion for pretrial detention filed this week calls Brooks a “high risk” for reoffending and urges the court to keep him in custody pending trial.
Brooks remains at the county detention center without bond.
