LAS CRUCES - Memorial Medical Center has announced nearly $10 million in facility improvements to its Las Cruces campus, including a redesigned exterior, parking lot restoration and renovations to patient-facing areas of the Emergency Department.
The hospital announced the projects Monday, Oct. 26, with construction scheduled to begin in early November and continue in phases through 2027. The improvements are intended to make the campus safer, easier to navigate and more welcoming for patients, visitors and employees.
"This investment represents something much bigger than improvements to our hospital campus and building. It reflects our commitment to listening to the people we serve and continuing to strengthen Memorial Medical Center for the future," said Caryn Iverson, the hospital's interim chief executive officer.
The projects follow nearly $13 million in other facility, equipment and technology investments made by Memorial this year.

Three major projects planned
The largest component is a $5 million exterior renovation that will update the hospital's appearance, including exterior finishes, signage and directional information intended to help patients and visitors navigate the campus.
The exterior project is expected to begin before the end of 2026 and continue through 2027.
More than $3 million will go toward restoring campus parking areas, including pavement milling, resurfacing and restriping. Improvements will cover parking stalls, accessible parking spaces, fire lanes, directional arrows and pedestrian walkways.
Parking lot work is scheduled to begin in November and is expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2027.

State Sen. Crystal Brantley, R-District 35, welcomed the announcement.
"This $10 million investment in Memorial Medical Center is welcome news for southern New Mexico," Brantley said. "Modernizing our healthcare facilities strengthens the quality of care available to our families and demonstrates a commitment to the long-term health of our community."
The third major project will direct more than $1 million toward improvements inside the Emergency Department.
Planned renovations include new flooring, paint, lighting, window treatments, wall protection and cabinetry, along with upgrades to electrical finishes and a redesigned nursing station. The changes are intended to improve patient flow and the overall experience for patients and medical staff.

State Rep. Raymundo Lara, D-District 34, highlighted the importance of the emergency care improvements.
"I welcome this $10 million investment in facility improvements, particularly the enhancements to the emergency department, where timely, quality care is so important," Lara said.

Building on earlier investments
Memorial said the newly announced projects build on nearly $13 million invested in its campus, equipment and technology during 2026.
Among the improvements already completed or underway this year are:
- $3.5 million for the cardiac catheterization lab: Expansion and new equipment to improve access to advanced heart and vascular services.
- $2.5 million for security improvements: Campus-wide upgrades to security cameras and badge-access systems.
- $750,000 for sixth-floor renovations: New flooring, paint, finishes and furniture in the inpatient unit serving orthopedic and oncology patients.
Together, the investments are intended to improve clinical facilities, modernize the campus and support the hospital's long-term operations.
State Rep. Rebecca Dow, R-District 38, also praised the investment.
"Investing in our healthcare infrastructure is investing in our community," Dow said. "I applaud MMC's $10 million facility improvement project and its commitment to strengthening local healthcare for our families and future generations."
Iverson said the hospital's employees, physicians and community partners share a commitment to strengthening local health care.
"We are proud to make this investment in our patients, our people and the future of healthcare in Las Cruces and Doña Ana County," she said.

What patients and visitors can expect
Memorial said construction will be scheduled in phases to maintain access to hospital services while work progresses.
Patients and visitors can expect temporary changes to parking, entrances and pedestrian routes as construction moves through different areas of the campus.
The hospital plans to provide advance notices, bilingual signage, website updates and other directional information to help visitors navigate the changes.
Memorial is coordinating with city, county and state officials and community leaders as the projects move forward.
Additional interior renovations and investments are planned beyond the three major projects announced this week.
