LAS CRUCES - Las Cruces police have identified 46-year-old Manuel Jose Aguirre as the man killed in a train collision last week near the 1700 block of south Main Street.

Shortly before 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 26, police and firefighters were dispatched to reports of a man struck by a northbound BNSF train. First responders found Aguirre unresponsive with multiple injuries, and he was declared dead at the scene.

Investigators believe Aguirre had been walking north along the railroad tracks and did not respond to audible warnings from the approaching train.

The collision stopped the train on site and caused traffic at two railroad crossings to divert to nearby intersections while crews worked the scene.
