Las Cruces police say the victim died at the scene after a northbound BNSF train hit him Wednesday afternoon.

LAS CRUCES - Police are investigating a train vs. pedestrian collision that killed a man Wednesday afternoon near the 1700 block of south Main Street.

Shortly before 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, police and fire crews responded to a report that a northbound BNSF train struck a man in the area. First responders found him unresponsive with multiple injuries and pronounced him dead at the scene.

Police will release the man’s name after notifying next of kin.

The investigation stopped the train and forced temporary traffic diversions at two nearby railroad crossings.
