LAS CRUCES - Two people were hit by vehicles in separate incidents late Monday and early Tuesday, leaving one woman dead and a man critically injured, according to Las Cruces police.

The first incident occurred just before 10 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, near the 500 block of south Telshor Boulevard. Police said a Ford F-150 struck a 54-year-old woman who was crossing the northbound lanes of traffic.

Emergency responders took the woman to Memorial Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries. Police have not released her name while notifying family members.

Investigators said the woman was crossing east to west and was not using a marked crosswalk at the time. The driver, a 55-year-old woman, stayed at the scene and spoke with police.

About eight hours later, at around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, officers responded to another incident on Triviz Drive just south of Spruce Avenue.

Police said a Chevrolet Cavalier struck a 74-year-old man after the vehicle turned southbound onto Triviz from Spruce. Investigators said the man was in the roadway just south of the intersection and was not using a marked crosswalk.

The man was conscious and able to speak with officers before emergency crews airlifted him to University Medical Center of El Paso. Police said he remains in critical condition.

The driver of the Chevrolet, a 67-year-old woman, stayed at the scene.

Police said they do not expect to file charges in either case.
