Las Cruces firefighters assisted Doña Ana County crews battling a wind-driven house fire on Hondo Road that spread through the structure Sunday afternoon.

Wind-driven blaze spreads through structure Sunday afternoon

LAS CRUCES - Las Cruces firefighters assisted Doña Ana County crews Sunday afternoon with a residential structure fire on the 9400 block of Hondo Road.

The fire began just before 2:30 p.m. April 26. Las Cruces Fire Department crews responded with two engines, a battalion chief and a truck company to assist county firefighters.

Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy, wind-driven fire conditions. The fire spread throughout the structure, including the attic and areas beneath the building.

Firefighters assisted with establishing a water supply and suppressing the fire. Crews brought the blaze under control within about 20 minutes, but remained on scene for about an hour to extinguish hotspots.
