SILVER CITY - Western New Mexico University will open a campus escape room to the public Monday, Oct. 26, offering a free fall-themed activity while encouraging donations to support students experiencing food insecurity.

The event runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the AV2 Room at J. Cloyd Miller Library, where visitors can tackle the “Mystery of the Missing Professor,” an escape room organized by the university's One Stop Student Resource Center and Tutoring Center.

Students, faculty and staff have already enjoyed the escape room as part of WNMU's fall festivities. Monday's event gives community members an opportunity to participate.

Admission is free, and donations are voluntary.

Supporting students beyond the classroom

The event also aims to raise support for One Stop, WNMU's student resource center, which provides food and other essential resources to help students meet basic needs while pursuing their education.

One Stop operates a weekday food pantry where students can obtain groceries, fresh produce and personal care essentials. The center also provides cooking demonstrations, assistance with food-benefit applications and connections to community resources.

In partnership with Roadrunner Food Bank, One Stop hosts a monthly mobile food pantry open to students, university employees and the surrounding community.

University officials are encouraging donations to help sustain food assistance for students, particularly as the holiday season approaches. Monetary contributions can also be made online by those unable to attend the escape room.
