One-hour closure expected between 7:25 and 8:25 a.m. near key checkpoints east of Las Cruces

LAS CRUCES - White Sands Missile Range will temporarily close U.S. 70 Thursday morning, potentially affecting some commuters and travelers heading east of Las Cruces.

The closure is scheduled to begin at 7:25 a.m. and is expected to last about one hour, with the road reopening by 8:25 a.m., according to the New Mexico Department of Transportation.

The closure will occur at two locations: Blue Block, about 2 miles east of the WSMR access road near mile marker 172, and Brown Block near mile marker 192.

San Augustin Pass and the Las Cruces Gate will not be affected, though officials said Nike Avenue will be impacted during the closure.

Officials noted that all roadblocks are subject to change without notice.
