Trumpet soloist Jens Lindemann will join NMSU for a free Brass Day event April 19 and perform with the Wind Symphony in a free April 21 concert in Las Cruces.

Free Brass Day event Sunday and Wind Symphony concert Tuesday will feature guest artists and student musicians

LAS CRUCES - Los Angeles-based trumpet player Jens Lindemann will join the New Mexico State University Music Department this weekend for Brass Day, then perform with university music students in a concert Tuesday.

The NMSU Music Department will host Brass Day from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 19, at the Music Center on the university’s main campus. The free event is open to the public and will include a group warmup, masterclasses, performances and a question-and-answer session. Participants are encouraged to bring brass instruments.

Lindemann is a widely recognized trumpet soloist who performs across the United States and internationally. Guest artists will also include Lanette Lopez Compton on French horn, Nathan Tanouye on trombone and Zack Corpus on tuba.

On Tuesday, April 21, the NMSU Wind Symphony will present its final concert of the season, “Hope and Peace,” featuring Lindemann as a soloist on two pieces. The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Atkinson Recital Hall on the NMSU campus. Admission is free and open to the public.

The concert will focus on themes of celebration, hope, loss and peace. The program includes works by Joan Tower, Morten Lauridsen, Jay Chattaway, Michael Markowski and Peter Meechan. Meechan is expected to attend the performance.
