LAS CRUCES - City officials and housing partners will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday for the first phase of the Peachtree Canyon Apartments affordable housing development in Las Cruces.

The event is scheduled for 11 a.m. May 21 at 4936 Peachtree Hills Road.

According to the city, the development was co-developed by New Mexico Housing & Community Development Corporation and Thomas Development Group.

Phase 1 of the project includes 144 apartment units consisting of 72 one-bedroom units, 60 two-bedroom units and 12 three-bedroom units.

The development also includes a pool, playgrounds and a community building. City officials said the apartment complex will operate entirely on electricity.

Scheduled speakers include Mayor Eric Enriquez, City Councilor Becky Corran, state Rep. Nathan Small, Doña Ana County Commissioner Susana Chaparro, Housing New Mexico Executive Director Isidoro Hernandez and Thomas Development Group founder Thomas Andrews.

According to the city, funding for the project included Low-Income Housing Tax Credits from Housing New Mexico along with support from the City of Las Cruces, the State of New Mexico and Doña Ana County.

The city said the ribbon cutting ceremony will be streamed on the City of Las Cruces YouTube channel and Facebook page.
