LAS CRUCES - The New Mexico Department of Transportation will hold a final public meeting Wednesday on the University Avenue widening project between Avenida de Mesilla and South Main Street in Las Cruces.

The meeting is scheduled from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, at the Zia Middle School cafeteria, 1300 New Mexico State Road 101.

According to NMDOT, project officials will review completed work, discuss remaining items on the contractor’s final punch list and answer questions from the public. Las Cruces Mayor Russell Hernandez is expected to attend and address community concerns.

The University Avenue project began in December 2024 and included widening about 1.4 miles of NM 101 between Avenida de Mesilla and South Main Street.

The project also added:

  • new curb and gutter infrastructure
  • new sidewalks
  • a new multi-use path
  • ADA-accessible ramps
  • new storm drain and drainage structures
  • new roadway signage and striping
  • new lighting and railroad crossings
