LAS CRUCES - The City of Las Cruces Public Works Department will host a community sidewalk art event Wednesday as part of National Public Works Week celebrations.

The free “Chalk the Walk” event is scheduled from 3 to 5 p.m. May 20 outside Las Cruces City Hall.

According to the city, residents of all ages are invited to create sidewalk art inspired by the theme “Rooted in Service, Powered by Community.”

City officials said the event is intended to recognize the role public works employees play in maintaining infrastructure, protecting public health and safety, and supporting quality of life in Las Cruces.

Participants are encouraged to create drawings, artwork and messages reflecting community pride, service, connection and appreciation for workers who help keep the city running.

The city said the event is free and open to the public.
